World Series Home Field Advantage
By Michael Williams (2/26/2007)
Do you think that home field advantage for the World Series is important? If you do, then you agree with most of the people in the Major League Baseball front office. Every year, the All Star game is what determines which league gets home field advantage. So if you think that this game is not important think again. It can make or break the entire season for your favorite team.
Think about it this way. The teams in the American League get to use a designated hitter throughout the season. This means that their pitchers never have to step up to the plate unless it is an inter league game or the play offs. In addition, there are some players in the AL that just bat, they never touch the field. So for them to get their swings in a NL park they have to play the field which is something they are not accustomed to. This means that whoever has home field advantage in the World Series is at a definite advantage both at the plate and in the field.
If your favorite team has a crack at the World Series you were probably cheering hard during this years All Star game. When the AL came back to win late in the game, NL fans from all over were heart broken while their AL counterparts were dancing in the streets.
So as long as Major League Baseball decides to keep this format the All Star game will always be an important one.
