Will Ben Roethlisberger Return On Time?
By Michael Williams (8/16/2006)
Pittsburgh quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger,
made his music video debut recently. The 6'5, 241 pound Roethlisberger
guest-starred in the video for Pittsburgh grown country music band, Poverty Neck
Hillbillies. Ben was singing the blues just a month ago after surviving a
collision with a car that almost took his life.
"Seconds, maybe a minute away from dying," Ben told ESPN SportsCenter in a live
broadcast from Los Angeles. According to Ben, the trouble started on June 12
while he was taking a joy ride down a Pittsburgh street on his motorcycle. Ben
says he attempted to make a left turn and rammed his motorcycle into an oncoming
car.
Still conscious when the ambulance arrived, Ben remembers saying to EMS workers,
"Is this really happening?" "Tell me this is a bad dream." The paramedics worked
swiftly calming the quarterback and stopped a slit artery from filling Ben's
stomach with blood. The slit artery occurred during the accident and was located
somewhere between the mouth and throat. From there the blood made its way into
Ben's stomach, had it continued he would have died.
Pittsburgh prince is feeling a lot better these days. Ben is expected to make a
full recovery. He enjoyed his cameo in the Poverty Neck video and expressed his
admiration for the group during his SportsCenter interview, calling the band "hardworking
and committed to succeeding on a higher level. Perhaps like Ben Roethlisberger
himself.
