When to Stop Betting a Hot Football Team
By Michael Williams (2/19/2007)
Unlike in basketball, football teams can cover a large number of games ATS in a row. Rarely will a team cover 5 or more games ATS in a row in basketball. But in football, it happens often even in a short 16 game season. This means you need to realize when to stop betting on hot football teams before you go overboard and bet on them too much.
If you notice that a team's defense is starting to struggle a bit, you should start laying off of them. This is particularly important because most people remember a team's offense. Your team might be scoring in the 40s but if they are allowing large number of points, it is time to lay off of them. They are not worth an investment of your money if they cannot stop the ball.
Now another case would be if a team is coming off a tough division rivalry matchup. They will not have the proper mindset to attack the following game.
If a team is struggling on offense and playing against a good defense, you must watch out. Defensive teams will keep games close and it causes their opponent trouble in trying to cover the spread.
