The West Virginia University Mountaineers are heading into the 2006 season with a lot of expectations. Not only are they looking to win the Big East Conference, but they are also hoping to make a run at the national championship. If this is going to happen, the Mountaineers are going to have to play top notch football on both sides of the ball.

The biggest advantage that the Mountaineers have in 2006 is their schedule. They do not play too many teams that should give them troubles. For this reason the Mountaineers have a great chance of running the table during the regular season, and setting up a date in the national championship game.

The problem that the Mountaineers will run into is if there are three undefeated teams including themselves. If the other two teams are from better conferences, they will be the ones that get to head to the national championship game in all reality.

But for now the Mountaineers can only do what they can do. The only thing that is on their mind is the first game of the season against Marshall. If they can get off to a good start, there is a chance that they can carry this momentum a long way. 

There are a lot of people that are interested to see if the Mountaineers can live up to the large expectations that have been placed on them. They finished last season by beating the University of Georgia in the Sugar Bowl, and are looking for more of the same this season.
