Warriors Lose To A Controversial Technical
By Kris Lazaro (5/9/2007)
Warriors’ general manger Rod Higgins just could not control his anger after his team was given a technical by the officiating crew. Due to the technical, the Warriors lost the game to the Wizards 107-106. This happened because of two last second foul calls.
In fact, the game clock was already showing 00.0 with the Warriors up by two points when a shooting foul on Mickael Pietrus, a technical foul on coach Don Nelson, and three free throws by Gilbert Arenas turned a would be win into a loss.
Al Harrington hit two free throws with 2.9 seconds left and gave Golden State a 106-104 lead. The Wizards used the final 20 second timeout and inbounded the ball to Gilbert Arenas. Gilbert, an ex-Warrior, drove toward the rim and drew contact from Pietrus as he was just about to pull up for a jump.
Though the final buzzer had already sounded before the ball left Arenas' hands, the official whistled Pietrus for the expensive body bump. Nelson charged onto the court to argue the call and received an even costlier technical foul.
Arenas was the one who got the three free throws and before stepping to the line, he taunted his former team by gesturing to them to leave the court and telling players to head for the locker room.
Last year Arenas was instrumental in the Wizards losing to the Cavaliers last year when he choked at the foul line. However, in this game he was right on target and did not miss.
