Vikings’ Travis Taylor Arrested In Minneapolis
By Michael Williams (3/8/2007)
Travis Taylor, Minnesota Vikings’ 27 year old wide receiver, was arrested outside a Minneapolis nightclub just hours after the Vikings lost the last game of the season to St Louis.
It is believed that a police officer requested Taylor to get into a waiting limousine bus as the police were trying to disperse a large unruly crowd to allow an ambulance to through. However, Taylor did not listen to the request and starting pushing the officer which led to the officer ultimately using a Taser to calm down Taylor. This was disclosed by the police spokesperson, Lt. Amelia Huffman and the incident took place at around 2:30 a.m. in downtown Minneapolis.
Taylor was arrested and taken to Hennepin County Jail for fifth degree assault, disorderly conduct and interfering with pedestrian or vehicular traffic. All these are considered to be misdemeanors. Taylor paid his $50 bail and was released at around 4:40 a.m.
However, Taylor said in a season ending team meeting that the entire incident was a misunderstanding. He said that he had already got inside the waiting limousine bus but was pulled out of it somehow.
Though the NFL players have been on reasonably good behavior this season, there been a few incidents like Taylor’s. Receiver Koren Robinson was charged with DUI and reckless driving during a training camp while safety Dwight Smith was charged with indecent conduct outside a nightclub. NFL coaches are not far behind when it comes to trouble with defensive backs coach Joe Woods being charged with two counts of drunken driving.
Taylor will become a free agent after this season and he has started all the 16 games for the Vikings with 57 receptions for 651 yards.
