Baseball - Tying Babe Ruth: Barry Bonds

Going into the game against the Oakland A’s on May 20, 2006 Barry Bonds had 713 career home runs and was looking to hit one more so that he could tie Babe Ruth for second place on the all time home run list. And on this day he would accomplish his goal.

During the top of the second inning, Bonds hit a deep ball to right field and tied Ruth’s mark of 714 career home runs. He hit his homerun off of left handed pitcher Brad Halsey, and it easily cleared the wall.

On the day, Bonds batted as a designated hitter since it was an interleague game in an American League ball park. He finished the 1 for 3 with 2 walks. He also chipped in one run and one RBI thanks to his slam over the right field wall.
This home run tied Babe Ruth for second of all time. Unfortunately, not too many people cared about it due to the fact that Bonds has made comments about Ruth in the past. After the game Bonds stated that he was happy that the whole ordeal was over. If he thought this was a lot, just imagine what it is going to be like when he starts to chase the all time record held by Hank Aaron.
