Travis Diener To Replace Carlos Arroyo For Magic
By Michael Williams (2/20/2007)
It has been stated that Travis Diener will replace Carlos Arroyo as the first point guard off the bench when Orlando Magic host Washington Wizards at the Amway Arena.
Arroyo has been the backup point guard to starter Jameer Nelson but has been having a problem with his form in the last few weeks. Already Magic’s offense has been facing a lot of problems in scoring points, specially towards the end of the games.
It was confirmed by coach Brian Hill that Diener would be replacing Arroyo. He was seen putting his arm around Arroyo as the two walked back to Hill’s office to have a meeting.
Hill said that that Magic felt that the time was right to make the change and that is why they were going ahead with it. However, they would see how it goes after the game against the Wizards.
Arroyo was acquired last season from the Detroit Pistons along with Darko Milicic. Hill confirmed that Arroyo has not been shooting too well in the last few games. Arroyo has started four games this season and is averaging 8.4 point and 3.1 assists. However, in the last 14 games Arroyo’s performance has significantly slipped and now he is averaging just 4.4 points and shooting at 28.2 percent.
Diener is a second year guard from Marquette. He has not played too much this season but is considered to be one of the best shooters in Magic. He is averaging 5.3 points and 1.4 assists in 13.1 minutes per game this season.
