Trade Deadline
By Michael Williams (2/26/2007)
With the trade deadline approaching fast, teams from all over the league are jockeying for position. This is one of the most exciting times of the year in Major League baseball because every team is looking to make moves before the trade deadline that will either put them in better position to get into the play offs. In some cases they are also looking to unload guys that have no value to their team.
This year the number one thing to look for as far as the trade deadline is concerned is pitching; but this should not be a surprise to anybody. Every year at the trade deadline pitching is at a premium and teams are looking for a way to sure up this area. In particular, starting pitching is what a lot of teams need this year. For most teams, if they can pick up that fifth starter they go from a play off hopeful to a play off contender.
In addition to pitching, the trade deadline will also see a lot of good hitters switching uniforms. Again, one additional bat in the line up can make a team's season.
Again in 2006 the trade deadline should start to heat up as the deadline starts to close in. There are some teams that will make the deal that puts them over the edge, as well as some that make a big mistake and end up regretting it for years. This is what makes the trade deadline so exciting, and the month of July one of the best every year.
