The Vikings Losing Another One?
By
After all of the controversy and
changes within the Minnesota Vikings franchise, another bit of news came through
recently.
Star quarterback Dante Culpepper has had enough. Enough of the Vikings that
is! Culpepper issued a threat of some sorts to the press stating that if
Vikings didn’t trade him, he was leaving. According to Culpepper, the Vikings
denied him the courtesy of allowing him to talk with other interested teams. He
has asked for more money in previous talks with the team, and the owner Wilf did
agree to pay Culpepper $6 million in a bonus that was to arrive at the end of
March.
Apparently, the money is no longer the
reason Culpepper wants out however. His statement to the press led to
speculation that the management changes and Culpepper are not agreeing. The
problem is that the Vikings must either trade Culpepper or let him out of his
contract. If they don’t agree, Culpepper will be obligated to fulfil the
contract, which is what he says he will do if it comes down to it.
Since Culpepper has been injured and did
not play some of the last season, there is reason to believe the Vikings will
indeed find a way to let him go. The “Boat Scandal” is apparently partially to
blame in the tiff between the star and the franchise. Culpepper leaned toward
the insinuation that the Vikings may not like the way he is handling his
personal and professional life at this point. Chances are it is just the stress
getting to Dante and everything will be patched up in time for the new season.
If not, the Vikings will have lost a great player in Randy Moss and an even
greater one in Dante Culpepper.
