The Super Bowl
By Michael Williams (2/9/2007)
Every football knows about the Super Bowl and wait eagerly to see whether his team will finally make it to the Super Bowl and win it. For the uninitiated, Super Bowl is when the leading teams of the National Football League (NFL) and American Football League (AFL) play each other. The Super Bowl game takes place on a Sunday afternoon and is known as Super Bowl Sunday.
The first ever Super Bowl was held on January 15, 1967. In those days it had a different name. It was called AFL-NFL World Championship of Football Game. However, this long name was destined to fade away and in 1969, the name was officially changed to Super Bowl, a title used by fans and media.
Super Bowl is more popular for its advertisements than the football. The game is watched by millions of people across the globe. It is a known fact that the advertising time at Super Bowl are extremely expensive, so advertisers go out of their way to ensure there is enough hype before the Super Bowl. It is this hype and advertising that ends up giving Super Bowl its own distinct flavor specially since the actual football game invariable ends up being dull and boring.
The Super Bowl manages to attract the top celebrities from the music world to perform in a pre-game show, sing the national anthem and half time show. The Whos Who of the music industry is tapped so that the Super Bowl ends up being a gala event.
Immaterial who plays or wins, Super Bowl is an inherent part of the American culture and nothing can take away the excitement and fun from Super Bowl Sunday.
