The Big Tuna

Bill Parcells, who is also known as The Big Tuna, is considered to be one of the best NFL coaches ever. The most important thing is that Parcell is known to have an uncanny ability to turn around a struggling franchise and make it successful. This was evident with the Giants. It took Parcell two seasons to coach them into a winning team. However, when it comes to the Patriots, New York Jets and Dallas Cowboys, it took just one season to ensure that they started performing and showing results. Parcell is famous for bringing his teams to the playoffs within the first two seasons.
Parcell is a thorough professional who is viewed as a hard nosed coach. However, his ability to bring out the best from his players is highly valued. He has coached the so-called problem football players such as Lawrence Taylor and Brian Cox. He has also coached two loud mouth players, namely Terry Glen and Keyshawn Johnson. At the Dallas Cowboy he has to reckon with Terrell Owens who had several clashes and run-ins with previous coaches and his teammates.
Call it tradition or policy but it is something Parcell follow diligently every year. The first draft pick for the year fetches water for him during training camp and practice. This is his way of ensuring that the player’s ego does not get too big. In 2006, the honor of fetching water for Parcell fell on Bobby Carpenter.
Parcells was the first coach in football history to be get a Gatorade Bath. During their 1986 Super Bowl run when the Giants went on a winning spree, the team would dump a Gatorade bucket of ice water over Parcells’ head. This is now a common tradition in high school, college and professional football.
Football fans all over the world are now keeping their fingers cross and hoping that Bill Parcell will be able to lead his team to the Super Bowl using his unique and time tested coaching techniques.
