Team Overview Seattle Seahawks
The Seattle Seahawks are a professional football team that is based out of Seattle, Washington. The Seahawks are in the National Football League's Western Division. They started as an expansion team for the NFL in 1976 along with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Today the Seahawks are the only football team that has been able to play in both American and National Football Conference Championship Games. The Seahawks have appeared in the Super Bowl only once at Super Bowl XL against the Pittsburgh Steelers which they lost.
The name of the Seahawks was chosen on June 17, 1975 during a public naming contest in which there was over twenty thousand entries with 1,700 different names to choose from. The first Seattle Seahawks game occurred on August 1, 1976 against the San Francisco 49ers.
At their start in 1976 the Seahawks' logo was a stylized blue and green hawk head that resembled Northwestern Indian tribal art. Their helmets were silver and their uniforms were a combination of royal blue jerseys and silver pants.
In 2002 the Seahawks redesigned their uniform and logo. The colors were changed to a darker blue and a neon green. The helmet color was changed to a dark blue from the original silver color after a fan poll was conducted on the team's website. Today the team typically wears all blue when they are at a home game and all white when they are away. In 2005 talks were started to use an alternate neon green jersey but this idea was never put into effect.
