Team Overview Indianapolis Colts
The Indianapolis Colts are a professional football team for the American League of the National Football League. They are based out of Indianapolis, Indiana. They are a member of the National Football League's Southern Division.
In 1953 the Indianapolis Colts started as the Baltimore Colts. Previously between 1947 and 1950 there was a Baltimore Colts team. The original Baltimore Colts started in 1947 as an original member of the All-America Football Conference and then merged with the NFL in 1950 but folded after only one season. Football fans in Baltimore started to complain about a lack of a football team so the NFL started the newer Colt team in 1953. As the Baltimore Colts the team won four Championships, including one Super Bowl game.
Just before the 1984 season the Baltimore Colts moved to Indianapolis. The move occurred on a snowy night in March when the team loaded themselves onto Mayflower Transit trucks and headed to their new location. This has caused many Baltimore football fans to disassociate themselves from the Colts entirely.
Since the newer Colts team started in 1953 the team's uniforms and logo have remained largely the same. Their helmets are white and feature a speed blue colored horseshoe logo. They either wear a white jersey with a blue shoulder strip or a blue jersey with a white shoulder strip. They always wear white pants that have blue stripes down the sides.
During the 1995 season, for a duration of three games, the Indianapolis Colts wore blue pants along with their white jerseys. However, after only three games the team discontinued the use of the blue pants and returned to the white pants which have remained since.
