Team Overview Carolina Panthers
The Carolina Panthers are a National Football League team that is based out of Charlotte, North Carolina. They are a part of the Southern Division of the NFL. They started as an expansion team to the NFL in 1995 along with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Their summer training camps are held at Wofford College.
The team logo is the head only of a snarling panther that is outlined in a blue color. The logo is roughly in the same of the combined border of both North and South Carolina. The helmets are a silver color while they normally wear a black jersey with silver pants during home games and all white during away games. Both black and white jerseys always have blue stripes on the shoulders. An alternate jersey was started in 2002 which is blue in color with black shoulder stripes.
Since the Panthers are in a subtropical climate they often wear their white colored uniforms during the home games of the first half of the season which then forces their opponent teams to wear dark colors in the hot weather of Charlotte, North Carolina.
In 2003 the Panthers were involved in a lawsuit with the Oakland Raiders. During this lawsuit the Raiders claimed that the Buccaneers and Panthers were infringing on the silver and black color trademarks of their uniforms. However, the lawsuit included the Buccaneers pirate logo as well. In the lawsuit the Raiders wanted a ban on the Panthers and Buccaneers wearing their uniforms while playing any game in California. The lawsuit was thrown out since it was filed in a state California court which only deals with intellectual property issues and no appeal has been filed to date.
