Super Bowl XLI Entertainment
By Michael Williams (3/5/2007)
The news conference about the Super Bowl XLI entertainment team involved brief interview with the pregame artists who were performers of Cirque du Soleil, Billy Joel and Prince. However, this interview was not the normal question and answer type.
NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy had warned the reporters and photographers that this would not be the interviews usually held and said that no questions would be taken.
Prince who is also called The Purple One, came to the interview dressed in an orange jacket, shirt, pant and shoes. He gave 10 minute concert to all the people attending the interview giving them a taste of what was to come during Super Bowl halftime. Prince, won Grammy Awards six times, has of late toned down his racy lyrics and dances. Once Prince finished his 10 minute performance, he left the venue immediately. Prince will perform during the half-time.
The Super Bowl’s entertainment is scheduled to open with a performance by Cirque du Soleil which is described as a high-energy extravaganza with music, dance, gymnastics and circus feats. Cirque du Soleil would perform alongside the famous Miami based artist, Romero Britto. Grammy award winner Louie Vega is all set to provide an original musical score for this show. Some Cirque performers were present at the interview and were dressed as football referees sitting on eight-foot flamingo puppets.
Rocker Billy Joel will perform the national anthem at the Super Bowl for the second time. The singer will sing at the Dolphin Stadium with the Chicago Bears and Indianapolis Colts just before the two teams start the game on February 4. The six-time Grammy Award winner is the first singer to sing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl two time. He had sung the national anthem during the 1989 Super Bowl.
