Summer Leagues

Summer Leagues
While on hiatus, many basketball players who want to play in the NBA join summer leagues that will play throughout the summer. These leagues are few and many of the players are only average with no real chance of making it to the NBA. The four summer league teams are the Orlando Summer League, the Rocky Mountain Revue, the Toshiba Vegas Summer League, and the Southern California Summer Pro League.
These leagues are tests for players and used by scouts to decide who will be drafted for the next season. The summer leagues will determine who the best and worst players are and if they will get better with training for when they will play against seasoned NBA players. Many players start out playing on summer leagues and a few are drafted. These leagues are a way to keep basketball games going on and to help players improve their skills for the draft.
Many talent scouts for teams will watch players that they like throughout the summer and into the fall. They will make their recommendations based on more than a few summer league games, but these games are what may spark initial interest in a player. Players should do their best and hopefully play better than other players. During the draft, there will be more players who want NBA contracts. Standing out early may help players gain an advantage. Summer league games are not as interesting for fans, but the games can showcase new talent and hopefully show teams that valuable players are out there waiting to be signed.
