Sports Betting Odds

If you are using a sportsbook to place bets, you would get sports betting odds. Sports betting odds are used to find out what the chances of a team are to win a game. Though sports betting odds are not the ultimate deciding factor in a team winning a game, they do help a sports bettor an idea as to how the team is expected to perform during a particular game.
Sports betting odds can be money line or point spread. Money line is the simpler of the two. Here the team you have placed a wager on just needs to win. The score of the game is immaterial. For example, Cowboys are scheduled to play the Rams. The sports betting odds on Cowboys is -110 while for Rams it is +110. You bet $110 on the Cowboys to win against the Rams and they do, you will get $100. On the other hand you bet $100 on the Rams to win and they do, you will get $110. Sportsbooks have money line sports betting odds in such a way that it is balanced so that bettors bet on the favorite as well as the underdog.
While point spread is different. Though you place a wager based on the sports betting odds but a point spread determines the number of points by which a team has to win by. Let us take an example. The Colts are playing the Steelers and the point spread for the Steelers is -7 while for Colts it is +7. You have placed a wager on the Steelers. In order for you to win your wager, the Steelers need to win by more than 7 points. In case the game is a tie, you will neither win nor lose but if the winning margin is less than 7, you will lose your wager.
Sportsbooks try and made sports betting odds as easy as possible for sports bettors to understand so that bettors can check their chances of winning a wager.
