Seattle Seahawks’ Tobeck Retires After 13 Seasons
Robbie Tobeck, the former Pro Bowl center, retired after Seattle Seahawks’ season ended with a loss at the NFC divisional playoffs at Chicago.
Tobeck, who is known as a jokester and prankster, was one of the most popular teammates at Seahawks. He played in 176 career games in 13 seasons. His first six seasons were spent in Atlanta. This is considered a fantastic record given the fact that Tobeck was a former undrafted free agent from Washington State whom the Falcons signed as a longshot guard in 1993.
Tobeck missed the final 10 games of Seattle season after what he thought was a severe flu turned out to be an abscess that settled in his hip. Tobeck spent the Thanksgiving weekend in hospital receiving intravenous antibiotics. He had lost 25 pounds during this time.
In early January, Tobeck returned to practice but had still not gained his weight back. In the meantime, Seattle started using Chris Spencer who is the Seahawks’ first round draft choice from 2005.
Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, one of Tobeck’s best friends and often butt of his jokes, took over the responsibility for blocking calls while Tobeck was undergoing treatment.
Coach Holmgren informed that he would miss Tobeck and his antics. Holmgren admires Tobeck for his hard work and how he managed to carve a niche for himself in football.
It was definitely a sad occasion for Seattle Seahawks as this would be the first time that Robbie Tobeck would not be there after he became a member of the Seahawks seven years ago.
