Ron Rivera May Impress Dallas Cowboys
By Michael Williams (3/6/2007)
Super Bowl has turned the fortunes of many inside the Colts and Chicago Bears. Latest on the list is Ron Rivera, defensive coordinator of the Chicago Bears. Dallas Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones is apparently very impressed with Rivera’s coaching abilities.
Earlier, it was considered that Norv Turner will be appointed as the Cowboys’ head coach and he was the leading candidate to replace Parcell, who retired from the professional League. Incidentally Norv is the brother of Bears’ offensive coordinator Ron Turner. Jones has not disclosed who would be the successor to Parcell. All he is willing to divulge is that he is looking for best possible candidate. Jones is scheduled to interview few more candidates including Rivera and Indianapolis Colts’ quarterbacks coach Jim Caldwell before announcing his decision
Rivera said that he like to have a meeting with Jones and thinks that it would be an exciting prospect to be the Cowboys’ head coach. He further added that he feels that he has the confidence and strategies that are required for the job and if given a chance to speak with Jones, he is certain that he can impress with his abilities.
This winter 4 clubs have already interviewed Ron for the post of head-coach. Although his team lost the Super Bowl, his contribution to his teams’ success until the grand finale has been duly recognized at last. Even if Rivera is not appointed as the head coach for Dallas, there is a chance that he might be roped in as their defensive coordinator.
Rivera’s contract with the Bears is expiring and they may not be able to match the salary that Jones might offer him. Bears already have a potential replacement for Rivera in linebackers coach Bob Babich. For the moment, it is believed that Jones prefers Turner but given a chance Rivera may change that preference.
