Ron Artest Arrested After Woman Reports Violence
By Kris Lazaro (5/9/2007)
Ron Artest, Sacramento Kings’ forward, was arrested after a woman claimed the he pushed her to the floor inside his home and stopped her from calling 911. He has been excused indefinitely from the team to resolve this incident.
According to Placer County sheriff, the woman reported that Ron and she were arguing inside his home when he pushed her. When Artest tried to leave in his Hummer, the argument moved outside.
The woman threw a pot at the Hummer which ended up shattering the windshield. The police did not reveal the relationship the woman had with Artest but they mentioned that a 3 year old girl was inside the house when the incident took place.
The police arrived and arrested Artest on suspicion of domestic violence and for using force to stop the woman from reporting the crime. The police said that Artest was extremely cooperative and they found him sitting calmly outside the house when they arrived.
Geoff Petrie, the Kings' president of basketball operations, said the team was removing Artest from the team till the investigation was over.
The sheriff’s officials got an emergency protective order that stops Artest from returning to his home or contacting the woman until she can obtain a restraining order against him. The officials further added that the woman had sustained injuries but had declined medical treatment.
Artest joined the Kings from the Indiana Pacers in January 2006 and has had previous problems with the police.
In November 2004, Artest was part of the fight that took place between Pacers’ players and Piston fans. After the incident, Artest was suspended for 73 games which ended up costing him nearly $5 million.
