FOOTBALL – Redskins: Rogers to Have Surgery Without Missing a Game
By Kris Lazaro (10/26/2006)
Washington Redskins cornerback Carlos Rogers underwent surgery on Monday for a broken right thumb. Despite this injury and the surgery, Rogers not keep be out of next week's game against the Indianapolis Colts. If nothing happens the player will be part of the roster for the game against the Colts according to trainer Bubba Tyer. Rogers will be evaluated the whole week before the coaching staff will take a decision about the player.
Rogers injured his right thumb during Sunday's 25-22 loss to the Tennessee Titans. He had three screws inserted in his thumb. Even though the injury was not too severe he required to undergo surgery the next day on Monday.
Another player was injured during the game against the Colts. Mark Brunell had a toenail ripped off when a defender stepped on the quarterback's right foot in the second quarter. However he did not require any surgery and announced on Monday that was feelingfine Monday. Brunell also added that the injury was not a factor at all in his 5-for-16 performance during the second half.
Two other injured players might rejoin the Skins for practice. Defensive tackles Cornelius Griffin, who had a hip injury last season, and Joe Salave'a, who injured his calf last season and missed Sunday's game, are both scheduled to return to practice on a limited basis starting from Wednesday. Unfortunately guard Derrick Dockery, who strained his hip flexor during the game against the Titans, probably will miss a couple of days of practice this week.
Eventually cornerback Shawn Springs, who missed the first five games with abdomen and groin injuries, had no setbacks in his first game of the season against the Titans. He explained that he still feel able to play at his maximum in his limited playing time. He argued that he is probably not yet ready to play every down.
