Roger Federer Loses His First Match In Two Years
By Kris Lazaro (9/22/2006)
Rodger Federer may have expected to lose the match, but few others did. Even the winner, Andy Murray, was shocked. He just went into the game thinking that he should just play to the best of his ability. With his new coach saying the same, Murray broke a two year winning streak for Federer and gave everyone new hope that the champion could be defeated again. Federer was visibly upset and threw the ball into the stands where a crowd was watching.
Federer says he was playing too much tennis and after playing one tournament, flew to another and lost the game. This can happen when athletes play more than they should. Federer is relieved that his winning streak is over because it was making people nervous. Murray is very happy about the win and looking forward to playing more tennis.
Federer began his famous winning streak two years ago and has continued ever since winning seventeen tournaments in a row. This can be a lot of stress for players to maintain their first place position. Federer knew going in to this tournament he was going to lose because he was very tired and did not want to play.
Players should not play in more tournaments than they can handle. Not only will they become bored, they will also begin to lose. Federer should probably take a break from tennis for a while. No one knows what his next move will be. He is still a champion in many people’s eyes and fans are confident he will reclaim his position eventually.
