Rams’ Head Coach Delegates Play Calling
By Michael Williams (3/8/2007)
After 10 games in his rookie season, head coach Scott Linehan has decided that someone else should take over play calling. He has delegated the duties to offensive coordinator Greg Olson and made him responsible for it.
This came after the St Louis Rams lost 15-0 in Carolina and Linehan says that it was an extremely humbling experience and being the head coach, it was about time he learned to delegate.
This arrangement will stay in play even in the next season and the Rams are looking forward to it. After Olson started play calling, the Rams won four of the last six games and had a long shot of going to the playoffs. The highlight of the season was an impressive 41-21 win in Minnesota.
As the Rams prepare for the next season, they are still a team that is in transition. There is still a lot of hard work. The Rams have had just one winning season in the last five, although their offense is beginning to look good now.
Marc Bulger had 24 touchdown passes and 8 interceptions. Veteran wide receivers Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce still have something left in them while Steve Jackson has 2,334 yards rushing and receiving, amongst the best in NFL this season.
However, the Rams still have a problem with the defense and are trying very hard to close that loop. Jim Haslett, the defensive coordinator, said that the Rams are trying to get better players but there still some requirements that needed to be addressed.
Now that Linehan has delegated the play calling, he said that he had a better perspective about the game and it helped him to prepare all the more for the individual exit meetings with the players. According to Linehan, there will be no further coaching changes in the Rams which means that Bob Ligasheshky, special teams coach, still has his job.
