Postponed

Definition

The term postponed means that a game has been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. Postponed games are more prevalent in baseball games than in any other sports (this is due mainly to weather conditions, such as rain). In the indoor sport of basketball, postponements are very rare. Football on the other hand, although both an indoor and outdoor sport, also has very few postponements. Football games will go on even in light of inclement weather.

Major League Baseball

In Major League Baseball (MLB) games, inclement weather such as rain will postpone games. Rain adversely affects the infield dirt and outfield grass, thus for safety’s sake, baseball games are cancelled for the day. To make up postponed games, MLB schedules double headers, in which two games are played in one day

Double Headers

After a postponement in an MLB game, a double header is scheduled. Depending on the schedule of both teams, the double header may be played during the same series, or be played in a future series between the two teams. As stated in another article, in double headers, there are many angles to consider. One angle is to go over the total for the second game of the double header if either bullpen was used up in the first game. This angle actually is a magnification of another strong angle in baseball—mainly to go for the ‘over’ in the next game if a bullpen has been overworked. In this case, since the second game is scheduled just a couple of hours after the first one, the bullpen cannot recover fully from being overworked. They will give up more runs in the second game. The second angle calls for a fade on the away team if they win the first game. This angle works because the home team does not want to get embarrassed and be swept in a double header. The ideal situation in a double header occurs when the away team wins and overworks the hometeam bullpen in the first game. The sports gambler then ideally fades the visiting team and bets the over for the second game.

Summary

In short, a postponement is a cancellation of a sporting event. Most postponements occur in baseball, mostly due to inclement weather. Football and basketball games rarely have postponed games. After a postponement in baseball, a double header is then scheduled. There are several angles to consider when betting double header games, including going ‘over’ the total in the second game if either bullpen was overworked in the first game.
