Pittsburgh Steelers Need To Replace Bettis
By Kris Lazaro (10/10/2006)
The Pittsburgh Steelers are in desperate need of a running back that can replace Jerome Bettis. Last season Bettis may not have racked up hundreds of yards, but he got the job done when the Pittsburgh Steelers coaches called on him. Anytime there was a third down play, or a goal line situation, it was safe to say that Bettis would be trotting out onto the field. And he was rarely denied when only a couple of yards stood between him and a big play.
But with Bettis moving to the broadcasting booth in 2006, the Pittsburgh Steelers are looking for a running back that can replace him. The number one back for the Pittsburgh Steelers is going to be Willie Parker again this season. But Parker will not get a lot of carries on third down, and at the goal line; this is where Bettis’ replacement will need to step up. As of right now the consensus among most people is that Duce Staley is going to win this job. The Pittsburgh Steelers paid a lot of money to get him, and he has yet to prove that he is worth it.
Replacing Jerome Bettis is not going to be an easy task for the Pittsburgh Steelers. In fact, it may take a few games for them to actually make a decision as to who their guy will be. But one thing is for sure; whoever gets the call as the replacement to Bettis has very large shoes to fill.
