Pistons Raring To Go
By Michael Williams (3/8/2007)
Detroit Pistons, who have won five of their last six games, will play their next six games at The Palace at Auburn Hills in Motown. This venue has proved to be quite lucky for the Pistons and they have a record of 12-9 at this ground. The Pistons are leading the Central Division and will play Chicago Bulls and Cleveland Cavaliers. Pistons would have to be wary and be well prepared as both the teams are just a game behind.
As per statistics, Pistons are quite well placed and favorite to win. After the acquisition of Chris Webber from Philadelphia, they have won 5 games and lost 3. Webber has proved to be a lucky charm for them. To top it all, Webber is having a good season after joining the Pistons. In the 8 games that he had played, Webber is averaging 11.8 points with 7.1 rebounds and 3.4 assists.
When asked, Webbers expressed satisfaction and happiness playing for the Pistons, which is incidentally his home team too. He accepted that his association with the Philadelphia 76ers team has not been a pleasant one.
Along with Webber, Pistons also have Richard Hamilton in their line up. Hamilton has been selected for the All Star game for the second successive season. In the last 16 games, he is averaging 20 points per game. In this season, he has averaged 22.7 points which an all time career high for Hamilton.
Another reason for the Pistons to cheer is that coach Flip Saunders has completed 500th win as a head coach. He is the 26th NBA coach to achieve this distinction. With star performers in the team who are being coached by an accomplished coach, experts believe Pistons would be a difficult team to defeat this season.
