Philadelphia Phillies
By Michael Williams (8/24/2006)
It is safe to say that the Philadelphia Phillies
are going to begin to start preparing for next season. Even though they have a
42 and 50 record, there chances of making the play offs are slim to none. After
all, they are 13.5 games back of the Mets in the National League East and it
does not appear that they are going to slip anytime in the near future.
The biggest problem for the Phillies this year has been their pitching. All in
all they have had one of the worst staffs in the league during the first half of
the season. Since the starting rotation has been so bad, the bull pen has been
forced to pull double time. With this has come a large amount of problems such
as blowing games in the late innings.
Even though the pitching has been horrible the Phillies have still put 42 wins
on the board. They should be looking to get rid of some of their higher salaried
non productive players to make room for some younger pitchers. If the Phillies
can get this done during the off season they should be in a good position to
start off next season.
Overall, the Phillies are not giving up on 2006 just yet but the fact of the
matter is that there play off chances are slim to none. If they want to make a
run at the play offs next year their preparation should begin right now; sooner
is always better than later.
