Phil Jackson Speaks To Scottie Pippen About A Comeback
By Kris Lazaro (5/9/2007)
Los Angeles Lakers’ coach Phil Jackson has been having talks with Scottie Pippen about making a possible comeback to basketball.
Just before the Lakers played the Phoenix Suns, Jackson said that he was in touch with Pippen and he had talked to him about what he was doing and how he was feeling. Jackson informed that Pippen as interested in coming to Los Angeles.
Jackson had coached Pippen while they were both with the Chicago Bulls during their title year. Pippen is now 41 years old. Pippen and Michael Jordan led the Bulls to six NBA championships. He was with the Bulls for 12 seasons, from 1987 to 1998, and then again in the 2003-04 season when he returned to play 23.
Jackson said that Pippen had spoken about the different ways in which he could help the Lakers.
Now that Lamar Odom and Luke Walton are injured, having Pippen on the team could be attractive proposition for the Lakers. Odom was injured in a game against Sacramento. He has injured his left shoulder and is expected to be out indefinitely. While Walton has sprained his ankle and has already missed 17 games.
However, Jackson said that the team would take one step at a time and would like to wait and see what happens with Odom and Walton. It is only after that, the Lakers would like to take a decision.
The good news for the Lakers is that Kwame Brown, who had a severely sprained ankle, has returned to the team after missing 27 games.
