Online Gambling Sites: Raking in Money
By Michael Williams (3/24/2006)
Online gambling sites everywhere are
cashing in on the recent gambling trend that has swept across the world over the
past couple of years.
With the popularity of poker still growing, online gambling sites are getting a
lot of traffic everyday. Many people have found these sites to be more
convenient than heading to the casino, so they are spending their money here
instead. And this is really paying off for the people who own these online
gambling sites.
In 2005 alone, over 2,000 gambling web sites will pull in almost $10 billion in
revenue. Most of this revenue comes from players from the United States, but
people from all over the world are contributing. This number is up 40% from
2004, and is expected to grow even more over 2006. The most profitable sites
pulled in approximately $30 million in gross profits.
1/5 of this profit can be attributed to the poker craze. Some of the bigger
gambling web sites predict that they get about 1 million visitors each month who
are interested in nothing more than playing poker. Poker has become the most
popular game, and these gambling sites know this. They devote most of their
resources to keep their poker site updated, and make sure that it keeps up with
the other sites that are available.
Without the poker craze over the past couple of years none of this would have
been possible. Simply put, the gambling industry really took off when people
started to get serious about poker. It is the best thing to happen to the
gambling industry in the last decade. Overall, online gambling sites are looking
to build on their profits from 2005. There are more than 2,000 online gambling
sites available, and many more in the works.
