NFL Road Playoff Teams in the Divisional Round
By Michael Williams (2/13/2007)
Did you notice that the road playoff teams in the divisional round of the 2006 NFL playoffs were 4-0? Three of the games ended in a 3 point difference. The other game saw the road team win when they were 4 point underdogs.
Is this how it always is? Nope. In fact, the home teams generally dominate in this round. Because they are the teams that are off a bye. They are generally a better team to begin with (for them to get the bye). But what we see is a situation where Vegas is catching up on the bettors.
Bettors have been pouring money into the home teams in this round because they feel the trend of home team dominance will always be alive. It had been in past years. But in reality, road teams have more a chance to win now that Vegas shades the lines and because there is so much more parity in football this year.
As you continue to watch the NFL playoffs. Look for the teams that are getting smacked by the commentators, disrespected by the bookies, and bet against by the public. Because that will be the team that shocks you. They will use all that negative publicity as motivation and the vegas line will eek you out some victories.
