New Dallas Cowboys’ Coach Talks About Owens
By Michael Williams (3/6/2007)
Jerry Jones, owner of the Dallas Cowboys, has finally made his much awaited decision. He has found the replacement for Bill Parcells in Wade Phillips. But the main problem that Phillips will be encountering with the Dallas team is making Terrell Owens play.
Bill Parcell was a coach players like to work and Phillips said that he did not handle players but worked with them. There is bound to be a change in coaching ideologies and Cowboys would have to learn to adjust to them.
Owens could not be contacted about how he felt about Phillips but the chances are that Owens heard Phillips hinting that thinks were going to be different with a new head coach at the helm.
When contacted about his appointment and his strategy for handling Owens, Phillips clearly reiterated that he had now become a member of the Cowboys’ family and Owens is also a part of the same family. He further added Owens and he would learn to trust each other and work together, forging a loyal relationship for the betterment of the team.
If Phillips is lucky then he may not have to handle Owens at all. Owens is entitled a roster bonus of $ 3 million in June and a $5 million salary this season. If the Cowboys decide to let him go, then they would be saving themselves a lot of money and, of course, headaches. However, this would also mean that Cowboys would be losing their biggest star attraction. Last season, Owens caught 85 passes for 1,180 yards and had 13 touchdowns which is the best in the league.
