Minnesota Twins
By Michael Williams (8/24/2006)
The Minnesota Twins are in a very tight spot at
this point in the season. Even though they are only nine games out of first
place in the American League Central division, they would have to jump both the
Detroit Tigers and Chicago White Sox if they were to win the division. And at
this time it does not seem that this is going to be possible.
The reason that this is a tough spot is simple. The team has to decide if they
want to try and upgrade at the trade deadline in order to make a run at the
division title, or do they want to sit back and wait for next season. This is a
decision that needs to be made by the end of July and one that could affect the
franchise not only this year but also down the road as well.
There are some people that think the Twins have the fire power to catch the
Tigers. But being that they have the best record in all of baseball this is
going to be a very difficult task to say the least. Not to mention the fact that
in order to catch the Tigers they would also have to pass by the White Sox.
It will be interesting to see what the Twins do as the end of July gets closer.
If they want to make a run at the division everybody will know about it as soon
as they start to pull of trades.
