Milwaukee Brewers
By Michael Williams (8/24/2006)
The Milwaukee Brewers are in good shape for the
shape they are in. Even though they are seven games out of first and trail both
the St. Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds in the National League Central
division, they are still in position to make a run at the title. If they are
going to do this there are a few areas that will need to be addressed as the
season begins to wind down throughout August and September.
The main problem with the Brewers at this point is that there starting pitchers
have been one of two things: injured or inconsistent. This does not bode well
for a team that needs to make up seven games in order to get into the play offs.
Left hander Chris Capuano has led the staff, but he is going to need some help
during the second half of the season.
The Brewers offense has been strong and this has showed in the way that they
came from behind to win in 23 of their 28 home wins. If the offense can stay
steady throughout the entire game and the pitching staff gets healthy the
Brewers have a real chance at the play offs.
The NL Central race should be interesting down the stretch. If the Cardinals
stumble even a little bit they are going to be caught by either the Reds or the
Brewers. The main thing for the Brewers is that they need to keep winning, and
come up with some W’s when they face the two teams that are ahead of them.
