McNabb Want To Retire As An Eagle
By Michael Williams (3/8/2007)
In a recent news conference Donovan McNabb made an appearance where Campbell’s Soup announced that it was donating one million cans to food banks across the country and during that he made it very clear that he did not want to leave the Philadelphia Eagles.
McNabb also clarified during the conference that he was not jealous of Jeff Garcia, who has been a success after he replaced McNabb in the team, nor was he asked by coach Andy Reid to keep quiet and not speak to the media.
McNabb insisted that the rumors were false and that he intended to stay with the Eagles for years to come, and if luck had it, he would like to retire as an Eagle.
McNabb’s playing season came to abrupt end in week 11 against Tennessee when he injured his knee. However, prior to the injury, McNabb was leading the NFL with 2,647 yards passing, 18 touchdown passes and 95.5 passer rating.
In mid January 2007, it was reported that McNabb was upset because Reid did not allow him to travel with the team to New Orleans for the playoff game. It known that usually Reid does not allow injured reserves to travel. McNabb acknowledged that he was upset but for a different reason. He said that he was upset because he and other injured players could not help the team and that was it.
McNabb has led the Eagles to 4 NFC championship and one Super Bowl, which the Eagles lost. He rubbished reports that claimed he was upset and angry with fans and players for supporting Garcia and that Reid cancelled a news conference on January 19, 2007 to keep him quiet.
McNabb said that his knee was coming along nicely and he hoped to get well and be ready for play by the time 2007 season starts.
