Matthew Hasselbeck Football Players Profile
Matthew Hasselbeck was born in Boulder, Colorado on September 25, 1975. He is a National Football American League quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks. He was a sixth round draft pick by the Green Bay Packers from Boston College during the NFL Draft of 1998. He made his professional football start in 1999 with the Green Bay Packers as the backup quarterback for Brett Favre. On March 2, 2001 the Green Pay Packers traded Matthew Hasselbeck along with two other players to the Seattle Seahawks in return for the Seahawks first and third round draft picks.
In 2003 Hasselbeck had an excellent start with the Seahawks and became their all-time player with the highest-rated passes. In his career he as completed 1,342 passes for a total of almost sixteen thousand yards and 96 touchdowns with only 57 interceptions. Today he remains number nine in NFL history for the highest rated passing career.
In the 2003 and 2004 seasons his statistics dropped because the receiving side of the team dropped a large number of passes. Hasselbeck is perhaps most known for his 2003 season performance during the playoffs against the Green Bay Packers. During the final overtime drive he won the coin toss. His pass was intercepted and returned for a touchdown which led to the Green Bay Packers winning the playoffs. However, it was later determined that the receiver ran the wrong route during the play.
Perhaps his strongest year was in 2005 which Hasselbeck led the Seahawks to their third straight playoff season. Then in 2006 he helped the Seahawks gain a place against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Super Bowl although they lost the Super Bowl.
