Matt Hasselbeck Has More Than Broken Fingers To Contend With
By Michael Williams (2/9/2007)
We are all aware that Matt Hasselbeck had two broken fingers in his left hand and he continued playing despite the pain. Well, it now turns out that broken fingers were not his only problem.
It now turns out that Hasselbeck played the last season with a torn labrum in his left shoulder. The means, he would be sidelined through the entire training camp. This news about his latest injury was confirmed by NFL.
Hasselbeck has supposedly undergone an MRI. This was to determine whether he could avoid surgery on his shoulder. However, it now turns out that the surgery most probably would be unavoidable. If Hasselbeck undergoes surgery, he will be out of action for approximately six months.
This is seen as a major blow for the Seahawks and has raised questions on who would be their quarterback. The team was hoping to have Hasselbeck back for mini camps so that he could become familiar with throwing to recently acquired wide receivers Deion Branch and Nate Burleson. Now it looks like, this will not be possible.
In a way, Seahawks and Hasselbeck do not have to panic as the shoulder injury is in the left shoulder which is Hasselbeck’s non throwing shoulder. However, Seahawks have been struggling with injured players, having as many as nine players who are sidelined due to injuries. Many believe that it was because of this the Seahawks lost to the Bears. Among the injured players who missed the loss to the Bears were cornerbacks Marcus Trufant and Kelly Herndon, defensive tackle Marcus Tubbs, wide receiver D J Hackett and special team aces Josh Scobey and D D Lewis.
