Los Angeles Dodgers
By Michael Williams (8/24/2006)
The Los Angeles Dodgers are hovering right around
the .500 mark but still have a chance to make the play offs. The Dodgers compete
in the National League West division and are only three and a half games back of
the San Diego Padres. But at the same time the Dodgers have the Giants,
Diamondbacks, and Rockies breathing down their neck.
As the trade deadline approaches the Dodgers may be looking to add a big bat to
their line up. With a true home run hitter the Dodgers may get just what they
need in order to over take the Padres for the division lead. After all, they are
second in the National League in runs scored. One big bat may make all of the
difference.
As far as the pitching staff is concerned, the Dodgers are hanging tough. With
the loss of Eric Gagne the Dodgers have been put behind the eight ball as far as
a quality closer is concerned. This has set them back a bit, but with that being
said they have responded well.
Nomar Garciaparra has had a good start at the plate and his bat will have to
stay hot in order to keep the runs coming.
Overall, the Dodgers are in position to win the NL West division. Even though
they are three and half games back right now, with a bit of luck and a winning
streak they should be able to cause some noise down the stretch run. Plus, they
can feel the heat from the three teams behind them.
