Jason Kidd At His Best; Wizards Have No Answer
By Kris Lazaro (5/8/2007)
This what happened when Vince Carter of the Nets decided it is about time he did something against the Wizards. With just over 7 minutes remaining, Carter took on Gilbert Arenas of the Wizard and managed to hit the floor. Seeing this, Jason Kidd rushed to his rescue and when instead of helping Carter, he too landed on the floor. The crowd and the team immediately went pale and silent. They thought that Kidd had injured his groin, back or ankle. Immediately time out was called and everyone waited with hushed silence.
However, all was well. Kidd returned to the court with a smile on his face. Kidd can now laugh about it. He said that he wanted to help Carter and ended up doing a James Brown split on the floor. Maybe it was worth it since Kidd was the one helped the Nets win against the Wizards 113-101.
Kidd scored 19 points in 3 minutes 9 seconds and this included five 3 pointers and two assists. All this happened in the third quarter and Kidd had plenty of support from his teammates. Carter scored 27 points while Bostjan Nachbar scored 23 points, 16 of them in the fourth quarter.
Coach Lawrence Frank attributes the resurgence of the team to Kidd, with the Nets winning their straight consecutive game. Frank said that Kidd re-energized the team. Though some “credit” has to be given to the Wizards who without Antwan Jamison, who has a sprained ankle, Caron Butler, who was sitting out because of back spasms, and Michael Ruffin, who was suffering from dizziness. Arenas tried to help out his team by scoring 26 points along with Jarvis Hayes, who scored 21, but ultimately it was the Nets 3 pointers which did all the damage.
