Jake Plummer Prefers Retirement To Trade
By Michael Williams (4/3/2007)
Last season Jake Plummer lost his starting job with Denver Broncos and his status is still uncertain with the team. Plummer is believed to prefer retirement rather than being traded to Tampa Bay.
Plummer’s brother, Eric, said that he knew something was the matter when his brother asked him recently whether he should retire from football. Eric said that as soon as the season was over, Plummer was not sure whether he wanted to continue playing football anymore. However, Eric did mention that Plummer had still not decided about retiring.
Apparently the Broncos and Buccaneers have worked out an agreement that would send Plummer to Tampa Bay in exchange for a middle round draft selection. Plummer still has three more years left in his contract and is due to receive $5.3 million in 2007. It is believed that Plummer is not at all happy about being traded to Tampa Bay.
Eric Plummer said that his brother did not want to go to a new team and learn a new system and did not want new teammates. Neither Plummer nor his agent was available for comment. While Broncos’ spokesman, Jim Saccomano, could not confirm that Plummer was going to be traded.
Last season was a terrible one for Plummer. He struggled the entire season and with just five games left, he lost his starting position to rookie Jay Cutler. It might have been difficult for Plummer to digest this specially after he led the Broncos in 2005 to the AFC championship. Last season Plummer had 11 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.
