Jake Peavy Charged With Disorderly Conduct
By Michael Williams (2/14/2007)
Jake Peavy, pitcher for San Diego Padres, was recently arrested and charged with disorderly conduct at Mobile Regional Airport.
Peavy, who is 25 years old and is a native of Mobile, was taken from the airport to the Mobile County Metro jail. He was released on a bond of $350 as per the records of the jail log.
The Airport Police Chief James Kincaid refused to divulge the reason behind Peavy’s arrest. However, he told a newspaper that a situation presented itself at the airport and the officers involved thought they had to deal with the situation.
According to the information that Padres’ general manager gave, it appears that Peavy was heading to Dominican Republic on a goodwill tour the morning he was arrested. He was at the airport with other major league players. He had double parked his car to drop off his luggage when the airport police approached him and asked him to move his car.
Apparently the airport police informed Peavy that he could not park his car at that place. To which Peavy is supposed to have told the police to write him a ticket which he would pay. It was on this that Peavy was arrested and charged.
The press has tried to contact Peavy to get his side of the story. However, Peavy did not return the call. While Peavy’s agent, Barry Axelrod, is neither responding to emails sent to him nor his cell phone.
According to Kincaid, the incident took place at 5:20 in the morning outside the terminal building.
Peavy has a career record of 57-45 and has been with Padres his entire playing career. Last season, he was 11-14 with a 4.09 ERA.
