Inconsistency Creeps Into San Antonio Spurs’ Games
By Michael Williams (3/5/2007)
Lately, inconsistent play has slowly crept into San Antonio Spurs’ game. At least that is what Gregg Popovich, Spurs’ coach, thinks. He said that the Spurs were missing shots and they are trying to improve those now.
Although, the Spurs’ are one of the few teams in the NBA who have won 30 or more games this season, they are showing signs of squandering leads and losing a game. This season Spurs have lost 8 home games while in the last season they had lost 7 games in the entire season. This speaks volumes about Spurs inconsistent play.
Spurs’ forward Tim Duncan agrees to the fact that the team is unable to repeat its winning performance time and again. A number of times, Spurs’ have found themselves of facing defeat in spite of leading in the most part of the match. A few times, they were successful in even losing the match.
However, Houston Rockets’ coach Jeff Van Gundy thinks that there is nothing wrong with the Spurs’. He says they are quite formidable opponents who could easily be winning 58 to 59 games this season and most importantly, they are playing the tough West Conference team.
The Spurs have been lucky this season when compared to teams in the NBA. None of their players are injured. Their star-forward Duncan is in good shape and form, averaging 20 points and 11 rebounds this season.
Duncan feels that the team is scoring in bits. They are playing part of the game aggressively and relaxing at some point enabling the opponents to get an upper hand. Duncan feels that this is the aspect of the game that Spurs need to rectify. He felt that the Spurs have to concentrate giving a solid performance for 48 minutes so that they can close out games without any worries.
