How to Pick a Road Football Winner
By Michael Williams (2/19/2007)
Road teams in football are actually not that hard to find. I like to bet on road underdogs in division rivalry games and road favorites in non-conference games.
Here are my reasons:
Home Underdogs in Division Rivalry Games:
Division rivalry games always bring out the best in every team. So therefore underdogs tend to shine in these situations because they perform better than expectation. But it is not like you will pick every road underdog. Look for the one's that the world expects to fail. Because they will only use that as motivation to play harder in the game.
Road Favorites in Non-Conference Games:
Because of the home field advantage, for a team to be a road favorite, they must be the better team. And because non-conference games are often overlooked by teams, the better team will win if they have the proper motivation to win like coming off a loss.
Another interesting thing to note is that road teams tend to talk about having a successful road trip. They will tend to overlook the games they are underdogs to focus in and win the ones they are expected to.
