How to Pick a Road Baseball Winner
By Michael Williams (2/19/2007)
Many sports enthusiasts don't realize that baseball has a home field advantage. It is not as apparent as it is in basketball and football but it does exist. And you want to be sure to bet on the right road teams. Because some can easily falter because of the road pressures.
The games to focus on road teams will be the ones where home field advantage does not mean as much. Late in a series where a road team has had the chance to rest off travel woes is a good place to start. When you see that a home team has played a lot of days/games in a row while your road team is rested.
Road teams that hit home runs that are playing in a home run ball park. Or road teams that like to run in pitcher's ball parks can both see themselves having a bit of an edge on the road in these cases.
You will also want to find those pitchers who fare better on the road than they do at home. There are some pitchers that because of the way they pitch do horribly at home. Like a homerun pitcher in Great American Ballpark for example.
Road teams with a rested bullpen are also ones that you need to consider. A rested bullpen can be the difference in the close road games.
