How The Bengals Faired Last Week
By Kris Lazaro (9/29/2006)
Coming week with the Cincinnati Bengals
The Cincinnati Bengals brought a new team to the NFL in 2005, and fans loved it! Their offense was much improved, showing they had what it took to actually win games. Carson Palmer had much to do with this change in the team. During week one, quarterback Carson Palmer looked great. Palmer was coming out of knee injuries that he suffered against the Steelers in the 2005 season. Many critics thought Palmer would not be physically or mentally ready for this season’s regular games. However, he seemed completely recovered against the Chiefs in the first regular season game for the Bengals.
The real inspiration however came from the Bengals defense. They dominated the Chiefs, allowing only 10 points from their opposition. The defense is obviously something the team has been working on in the off season, with success no doubt. They were tight and flawless. The Cincinnati Bengals defense just might be one to fear throughout this NFL season.
In addition to the great defense and to Carson Palmer’s good showing, running back Rudi Johnson also had a solid performance. Johnson is a player that will likely be used a lot this season by the Bengals. Also, end Justin Smith had a great game. Smith had three sacks overall. He also recovered a fumble, which helped his team take the victory away from Kansas City. Obviously the Kansas City Chiefs were disappointed with their loss, but with a strong defense like the new Bengals defense, there was nothing they could do about it.
