The Hornets have done it again. They just managed to win their 9th game out of the 13 they have played so far. Hornets rallied to beat Houston Rockets 87-74. This was a ugly game marked by the ejection of Rafer Alston and Desmond Mason.
A brilliant display was led by Devin Brown who scored 18 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Tyson Chandler scored 11 points and had 12 rebounds, while Chris Paul scored 11 points with 9 assists and was well supported by Brown.
For the Rockets, McGrady scored 18 points. The Hornets had slight advantage at halftime with the score reading 33-30 in their favor. While, Rockets shot 37 percent in the first half, Hornets were able to shot only 32 percent. By the third quarter 3-pointers each from Brown, Paul and Butler increased the Hornets’ lead and the score raced to 48-37.
This loss to the Hornets ended a four match winning streak for the Rockets. Van Gundy was always clear that the team was not up to its best in spite of the wins. He said at the end of the match that sometimes a team could win even if it was not playing up to its potential and sometimes it just did not happen. Regarding the brawl that occurred during the match, Van Gundy said that the players should have behaved in a more mature way keeping in view team’s interests.
Byron Scott, head coach for the Hornets, seemed happy with the final result. He said that in spite of low score in the first half, his players did not lose their confidence.
