Gonzalez Agrees To Contract Extension With Chiefs

Kansas City Chiefs and Tony Gonzalez have agreed on a contract extension. Gonzalez has agreed to a 5 year extension that will ensure that he is still the highest paid tight end in the NFL.
Gonzalez is an 8 time Pro Bowler and he is just two touchdown catches short of the league record for a tight end. As per the contract, Gonzalez will receive $17 million in guaranteed money. This was disclosed on the basis of anonymity by a person who was close to the negotiations.
Carl Peterson, Chiefs general manager, confirmed that Gonzalez would remain the highest paid tight end in the league. He went on to further state that Gonzalez deserves the money and according to him, Gonzalez was the best tight end in the NFL.
30 year old Gonzalez has been playing for 10 seasons. This was his best season and he helped Kansas reach its first playoff since 2003. Gonzalez had a should injury but it did not stop him from catching 73 passes for 900 yards and making 5 touchdowns. He also scored the only touch down in the game with Indianapolis in the first round of the playoffs, which the Chiefs lost.
Gonzalez is ranked first on Kansas City’s career receiving list. He has had 721 catches for 8,710 years. He has made 8 Pro Bowl appearances and is tied with Shannon Sharpe for most appearances by a tight end and Gonzalez is one of the two tight ends in the history of NFL with 70 or more receptions in 4 straight seasons. He has 61 career touchdown catches which one behind the NFL record for tight ends.
