Golden State’s Baron Davis Suspended
By Michael Williams (2/20/2007)
While Baron Davis was telling the Golden State general manager Rod Higgins and executive vice president Chris Mullin his side of the story, Stephen Jackson, Warriors new swingman, could help but say that he had just got to the side and already he was rubbing off on Davis.
This time Jackson was not involved and it was Davis, who had to sit out the game Warrior were playing against Cleveland Cavaliers, who needs to take all the blame. Davis was given a one game suspension by NBA after Davis took an aggressive and overt swipe at Los Angeles Clippers forward Quinton Ross where the Warriors lost 115-109.
Davis stands to lose $137,000 because of the one game suspension. He says that he was completely shocked by NBA’s decision. He further stated that he is not the type of person to take a swipe at anyone, specially from the back.
Due to the suspension, Davis was not allowed inside Oracle Arena when Stephen Jackson, Al Harrington, Josh Powell and Sarunas Jasikevicius made their debut for the Warriors. These four were acquired from Indiana Pacers a few days ago.
Warriors coach Don Nelson was not at happy with NBA’s decision to suspend Davis specially when few of Warrior’s player have been injured or hurt during games and NBA did not take any action against the opposing teams.
When 1 minute 47 seconds of the game were remaining, Davis took an elbow at the mouth while defending Ross. When Ross got by Davis and was appearing to take a shot, Davis’ arm swung at the ball. Ross passed the ball off to Sam Cassell as Davis’ arm shot several inches above Ross’ head.
