Baseball - Game of Shadows

In the March 7, 2006 issue of Sports Illustrated, a story was written that indicated Barry Bonds had used steroids in the past. This article sent shock waves throughout the baseball nation, and the effects are still being felt. The story was based on a book called the Game of Shadows that was written by two reporters from the San Francisco Chronicle; Lance Williams and Mark Fainaru-Wade.
The article in Sports Illustrated claimed that Bonds began using steroids in 1998 after he became enraged by the fact that Mark McGwire was getting more attention than him. The book details the fact that Bonds got help from this trainer Greg Anderson to start a steroid regimen that would help to boost his power.

The contents of the book have been disputed time and time again, and there is no way to prove if the contents are factual or not. But the book has caused Major League Baseball to start an independent investigation into steroid usage. The investigation is supposed to target steroid use since 2002; the year when steroids were officially banned. But the investigation can also go back further if necessary to uncover details.

Many people feel that this investigation is great for the game, and hope that it will uncover the steroid users.
