Favre Set To Return For 17th Season
By Michael Williams (3/8/2007)
Brett Favre is all set to start his 17th season in NFL. He is hoping to be able to lead the Green Bay Packers to the playoffs once again.
Ted Thompson, Packers’ general manager, confirmed that Favre, who is 37 years old, had already informed the team the he intends returning. Thompson said that the team was extremely excited by Favre’s decision was looking forward to having a successful season in 2007.
However, Bob Harlan, Packers’ chief executive, was surprised by Favre’s return. He said that he had not heard the news nor had he read the newspaper which carried the news.
Favre has the credit of starting 257 consecutive games, including the playoffs, and this is an NFL record for a quarterback. In 2006, Favre broke Dan Marino’s record for career completions and is fast approaching Marino’s career touchdown passes and yards passing.
As Favre does nearly every offseason, he returned to Mississippi to contemplate about his future. Last year, Favre informed his team in late April that he would be returning. Towards the end of the last season, in a television interview, Favre complained about niggling injuries and the effort it took for him to practice nowadays. He then broke down and spoke about how much he missed his teammates and the game leading many people to believe that he had all intentions of retiring.
However, it now looks that Favre wants one chance to lead the Packers to the playoffs. Favre has led Packers to 10 postseason appearances, 6 division titles, 3 NFC Championship games and 2 Super Bowls.
